#RecylableOrNot

Do you “wishcycle”?

Wishcycling is the act of placing items into the recycling bin based on the hope or “wish” that they will get recycled. These items typically include materials that may appear recyclable, but in reality, pose challenges and ultimately negatively affect the recycling process.

Some of the most common items are:

  1. LDPE items like plastic grocery/trash bags, drink pouches, cereal liners, various plastic wrappings, bubble wrap, etc.
  2. Dirty/Greasy Cardboard
  3. Styrofoam
  4. Coffee Cups
  5. Broken Glass
  6. Electronics
  7. Clothing
  8. Cosmetics
  9. Plastic Toys

Just because an item is made out of materials that are technically recyclable does not mean that a facility will recycle it! It’s important to check your local recycling guidelines and facilities to ensure you’re recycling right! Say no to wishcycling and join the movement towards more effective and sustainable recycling.
